Deathcore has been around for quite some time now, ever expanding its musical horizons and deepening its roots into the music scene around the world. So, what makes it different
from all the new genres popping up everyday, you ask? Well, Deathcore is a sub-genre of metal that combines sounds and characteristics of death metal with that of hardcore. It is defined by death metal riffs, blast beats and use of hardcore punk/metalcore breakdowns.
rest. Hailing from Siliguri/Darjeeling(India) , the band has become quite successful locally in such a short time and has garnered quite a following as well. The band has released a killer EP called "INSIDIOUS", which
also marks their debut into the scene.
INSIDIOUS is a beast of an EP. From the climatic build up of the intro into the first song, to the final track paying homage to the anime series Bleach, this is something that should not be missed. Usually, when I listen to songs by local bands ,the songs are oozing with potential BUT the only drawback is the bad production value ,which sadly and honestly is a turn off for most(unless tr00 kvlt metal is your thing). Lets be honest here, production makes or breaks a song and often good bands end up sounding like shit on tape and vice versa. But,thankfully this release is not plagued by such a drawback,as the production is good which contributes to the overall listening experience.
So,coming back to the EP, every track packs a punch! .
The Intro : The EP begins with a narrative from "Breaking Bad" (a western sitcom) and well its climatic and oozes with tension, and its kinda eerie imo.
Knees : One of my favourties , the track begins with a gang scream. If you want breakdowns in your daily dose of music, this song is definitely for you. 2:05 minutes into the song prepare your
self for some serious eargasm (oh and the psychedelic outro).
Whatthefock : The most complex song in the EP imo , this track compliments the musical prowess of the band members. This track also has many electronic elements (probably the most) and was also featured in the second installation of the Pure Deathcore compilation.
Bitch : This was one of the first tracks WSE wrote as a band. Beginning with an audio clip from (possibly)some horror/thriller flick, you can literally smell the melodic metalcore influence on this track.
Bankai : Okay so this track stands apart from the rest. Not only is the entire song in Japanese , but it is a direct reference to the famous anime series "Bleach". Written by a friend of the band, the song is about a Shinigami (Death God) who fails to trigger his Bankai (final form?). What could me more awesome? like srs.
If you're into deathcore or if you like metalcore and are looking for an Indian band to start with, look no further. Also, kudos to the band for incorporating so many melodic elements into their music, in an otherwise, bland genre (yeah sue me). If you want to support your local scene or if you're into deathcore, do give this EP a listen as you will not be disappointed at all.

Getting back on the topic, we have many good deathcore bands coming up in India, especially in the North East and When Stories End is one of the few bands that stands apart from the
