1) Greetings ! So how are things on the D4A universe ?
Wow Universe, thank u..haha We the D4A family are mainly focusing on our new EP Album "Evening Sun" and the release date is due in 2-4 months , so the recording of this album is in progress. The band members consist of- Ashes - Vocals Calvin - Guitars Arun - Guitars Adarsh - Bass Anup - Drums.
2) Could we get a brief view about D4A’s journey from the start ?
The band was formed on Summer of 2011 by 4 young members with a female vocalist. Since then a lot of line up change has taken place like we had Enoch on drums who was replaced by Anup Rai in the fall of 2013, bassist David Lepcha was replaced by Adarsh Gautam in the same time and Ashish joined as a vocalist in the summer of 2013 replacing Chahana. The permanent members in the band from the start are Calvin and Arun.
3) So any specific reason for the name “D4A” ?
Dwelling for Aeon or (D4A)-
The name describes a lot of things about what we want to do in life, the ambitions and goals of all the members are pretty similar, so the name came out when relating our goals in life. Dwelling is to linger in a place, and Aeon is "eternity" in short or can be defined as an indefinite and very long period of time.So we'll linger for eternity. Haha. And yes a fun fact - "D" - Dk Calvin. "4A" - Ashish Arun. Adarsh. Anup.
4) How was the band’s reaction to the Nido Tania tragedy, the song “Mundane Journey Called Life “ to whom was dedicated ?
Some of the band members completed their higher studies from different parts of India, and we know how it feels to be one of a kind in a different place. When we heard that a fellow friend from Northeast was beaten to death we were really moved by the incident and felt really connected. So, the next day we decided that we should make a tribute song for our departed brother "Nido Tania" , May his soul rest in peace.
5) Can we get more updates on the “Evening Sun “ EP ? Oh yes, as i mentioned earlier that we are working on our first EP album - "Evening Sun".
Most of the works are nearly over, like recording of both the guitars, bass guitar, and drums. We are now just starting to work on vocal recording, which we hope to complete by this month. So the album will be out on stores and internet within 2-4 months after the completion of the production which will be done in Aeon Studios.
6) We would like to know everything you want to share about the song “Meaningful Existence “ The song describes a lot of things about the problems and the hardships that we face in our struggle phase of life.
The song has been written by the band's vocalist and he shares that he has gone through a lot of hardships in life. So, he feels that we humans are born in this world for a purpose and we should try to find our own purpose in life rather then just staying in home and complaining about our lives . It is we who makes our life easy and it's only done when we get our ass off the seat and start working hard. We exist in this world, so why not make this existence meaningful. The song is a mixture of groove , modern, cleans and a kind of funky outro making it progressive and interesting. It is the personal favorite of all the members. Hope the listeners will like it as much as we do.
7) Where does the inspiration(s) for the music and the lyrics come from ? We worship many music legends from - Dimebag Darrel, Randy Blythe, Corey Taylor, Phil Bozeman, Chris Adler to Rex Brown, but what we write is mostly what we know about. We try to create new aura of music so that our listeners can experience a new taste of music when they listen to us.
We mostly write the music what comes in our heart, "Put the heart in the music and the music flows". The lyrics is written by the band's vocalist which is mostly inspired by the wrong things happening in our society , the struggles in lives that people face everyday and the corrupted politicians who ruin the lives of innocent public.
8) How have the live gigs been going ? Any gig alerts ? We are mostly focusing on our recording right now so we will not be doing any gigs until the EP is out. After the EP is out we will be doing release gig but have not decided the venue yet.
9) Most memorable gig so far. Our first gig - Metal Evolution (Gangtok) , Rock O Pheonix ( IIT, Guwahati) and Brutal Assault (Namchi) has been some of the memorable gigs that we've done so far.
10) How do you think metal is in your home-town ? The metal scene in Gangtok is not so good but thanks to some of the bands and organizers who have kept it going on through the years like Hangso Wang from "Eyestill" had organised a festival known as "Sikfest" this winter, and there are still some guys who try to keep the scene still fresh. We would like to thank them for keeping the metal scene in Gangtok still alive..
11) Bands to look out for there ? There are few bands in Sikkim, but they are good. Just give them a try.
- Eyestill - Damagera - Nightmares - Dire threat
12) Your playlist(s) right now ? The top most bands in our playlist consists of -
Pantera, Lamb of God, All Shall Perish, Whitechapel, In Flames, Opeth etc.
13) Albums that are a “must-have” in every metal head’s collection ? Cowboys from hell, Vulgar display of Power, Far Beyond Driven, As the Palaces Burn, Sacrament.
These are the must haves in a metalhead's playlist. Rest is their taste.
14) Where do you see yourselves ten years from now ? Ten years from now we will be doing what we know best. we will be creating original music like we are doing right now.. But with much successful albums throw-ed in the past... haha
15) This is your space ! Please give us whatever you want to say/ message(s) First off all, we would like to thank you for the interview. A heartful of thanks to all our fans , without whom we'd never have been what we are right now. And we would like to thank all the people who helped us throughout out journey to the date.Special thanks to Arpana Gautam and Andrew Lepcha who have helped a lot. And please guys keep supporting your local scene where ever you live. Problems will arise, you'll have to struggle but never give up on your passion. The fruit of hardwork has never been bitter.
