Getting up at 5:00 a.m. is certainly a feat for me, and I think I accomplished it after years ! … certainly, the purpose served was worth it though, because I had to catch a ride to Kharsang for the “JUSTICE FOR METAL VOL. II“ at the RAJRAJESHWARI HALL, on the 23rd, August this year . The fraternity “METAL SOCIETY OF KHARSANG” left no stone unturned to treat us with a battery of metal bands, and it should be mentioned that what they came up with after a mere thirteen days at hand, was highly commendable – kudos for that !
I reached the venue at 11 along with another band from my
hometown Darjeeling, and the first band to play, was ZERO TOLERANCE, again from
where I am started an hour later . With a new vocalist who had just three days
to reherse their material at hand, they put up an impressive “no-holds-barred”
set – speaking genre-wise that is ; why ? because their’s was truly a
pleasurable pot-pouri of various styles : nu,funk, core, thrash, everything
distilled, refined and presented in an awesomely original plethora of
imagination in the form of the songs they played . The complimentary chemistry
the instruments share with each other is blended so very well in this one, it
sounded as tight as the proverbial hamster’s butt !
Next up, natives POSTMORTEM FETAL EXTRUSION were every
mother’s nightmare, but every gore-soaked (s)lamenting (!) metalhead’s
delightful wet-dream ! Tunes to the precision of a chain-saw executing a
delicate surgical adventure in the mortuary, the music left little for
imagination, as blood-splattered riff after riff decimated the listeners’ ears,
the head naturally bowing down to a bang as bodies slammed into convulsions of
pleasure . Purely for medicinal and psychiatric purposes, what POSTMORTEM FETAL
EXTRUSION cook up in the cauldron is what your friendly neighborhood un-caught
till now socio-psychopath serial killer rapist has as his brain-waves – if that
could be deciphered into music …
Follow-up by the band OBLITERATING VORTEX, the afore-mentioned band with whom I shared a ride to the venue from Darjeeling – very honed up in their skills, very sharp, very focused, very good ! Though playing with just three members sans the usual Aditya who wasn’t present/ available then, they however, left nothing to feel short of, or the audience to complain for a lack about . Revoltingly precise to the auditory senses with technical finesse, they bombarded the hordes with shells that were alarmingly repugnant, and hence, savory to a palette bent on metal-riffage and everything else to wash down it with . Flesh-stripping heaviness combined with artful structure changes, they obliterated .

DIRE THREAT, already veterans in the metal circuits around here, and having a lot of commendable jobs done under their belt in the form of playing live filled in their predecessors’ boots with a set that was again, very good . Intrinsically building up upon various shades of brutality, they formulated a progressing beast in their definition of imaginative technicality on their own terms -very original, intricate, leaving nothing to whine about, as a full-
Climbing the stage after them, YUTHAK WAH, our brothers all
the way from Imphal, Manipur, put up a very good show to assault the gig-goers.
Jagged massively, brutal and melodic at times, they performed well as had the
curious wall of audience anticipated a band they were witnessing for the first
time. Playing on a canvas of various metal mood-swings, they handled the crowd
to ever-wind-milling heads and grins of satisfaction at personal energies
well-spent . Encompassing various conventions in metal, the music was hugely
destructive and exemplary, pulsating the venue with what was their version of
the apocalypse, painted in sheer fury .
Local legends CORPULENT DEFORMITY next barged in to add fun
to the revelry with their fiery brand of some brutal death-core . A contagious
orgy of ferocity hit us as well-crafted songs poured forth from them, one after
another, visionary, schizophrenic, sense numbing, all at once . Decidedly
bad-ass, Corpulent Deformity forged in some interestingly formidable barrage of
total annihilation .
Lesson learnt : never stand in the middle of a wall of death when this band plays, and expect to be entertained in the most polite manner ! All you get is broken teeth, pelvis and necks ! That that was what they exactly wanted us to know, and the music did that perfectly !

Veterans SYCORAX came in straight from a gig at Indore, and
were the ones to wrap it all up . Not really needing an introduction to the
scene here, we only need to remind every-one of how devastatingly warped up and
tight Sycorax is in their music, period . Volatile as the music was, the quartet
pulverised everything and every-one, razing everything to the ground,
blood-thirsy for more still, band and audience both . Grooves and unrelenting
brutality waltzing side by side, Sycorax made it obligatory for every-one to
throw themselves in a wild abandon to the pit of headlong madness that the past
couple of bands had put into circulation, finishing off with a bang .
Justice was done once again to metal in Kharsang, thanks to the collective initiative by the “METAL SOCIETY OF KHARSANG”, and a third edition will surely be lapped up by every metalhead worth her/his salt here … feritas rebellandi, et vivat !
