Graverot is a three piece experimental death metal band from Mumbai. The members include Shawn Phulpagar on bass & vocals, Kushal Umralkar on guitars and Saket Bhende on drums.
Formed in late 2011, the band has been through several line up changes and has been a three piece band since 2014.
Infusing raw death metal power with middle eastern music, experimenting with technical riffing and song writing, with hints from different sub-genres of death metal, is probably how you would define their music. (Impressive!)
They have recently released 2 singles and are working on their debut album.
Talking about their first single, Muted Ma'at is a fabulous amalgamation of metal with Egyptian musical influences. Saket Bhende has done a commendable work on the track with strong machine gun patterns, while Kushal's guitar work have justified their influences. Add to that, a strong vocalist and bassist Shawn and there you have it, Graverot at its best!
Muted Ma'at is essentially a song about the Concept of Balance, Order and Truth brought by the ancient Egyptian Goddess Ma'at, Muted by this Era Of Downfall. The lyrics take on a diversive edge to music as the band depicts a modern imperfect world through the eyes of an ancient goddess.
Second that with Objects Of Wrath, their second single and you will headbutt your way into a mosh without a second thought! Objects Of Wrath is a power punched single, well composed and with just the right amount of groove! Three-quarters of the song away, and they head to another direction altogether! Just brilliant!
Graverot is a promising band, with a lot more music to come from. Their singles are quite promising and I can only imagine them getting better with time!
